Our client is a Botswana-based financial services provider that has been offering loan solutions since 2012. With a strong focus on accessibility and customer convenience, they have established a network of over 35 branches and kiosks strategically located across the country. Their mission is to ensure that individuals can easily access the financial support they need, making them a trusted and reliable partner within the local community.

Role Overview

The CEO would be responsible for leading and overseeing the overall strategic direction, financial performance, and operational excellence of the company. The CEO will ensure the successful execution of the company’s vision and mission in the mobile money industry, driving financial inclusion, customer satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and sustainable growth. This role requires a dynamic leader with a strong background in financial services, fintech, mobile payments, and digital transformation and a hands-on approach.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Information Technology, or a related field; MBA or relevant postgraduate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of executive leadership experience in fintech, banking, telecommunications, or mobile financial services.
  • Proven track record of leading a high-growth business, scaling mobile money operations, and driving digital financial inclusion.
  • Strong understanding of financial regulations, AML/KYC requirements, and risk management principles.
  • Experience in strategic partnerships, investor relations, and stakeholder management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial reports, market trends, and business performance metrics.
  • Experience working with regulators, policymakers, and industry associations in the financial services and fintech sectors.

Responsibilities


Strategic Leadership & Business Growth:

  • Develop and implement the company’s long-term vision, mission, and strategic plan to ensure business growth and sustainability.
  • Identify new market opportunities, partnerships, and revenue streams to expand the company's footprint and enhance financial inclusion.
  • Spearhead innovation in mobile money solutions, ensuring alignment with emerging financial technologies and customer needs.
  • Drive expansion strategies including partnerships with banks, telecom operators, merchants, and other financial institutions.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including investors, regulatory bodies, financial institutions, and technology partners.


Financial Performance & Risk Management:

  • Oversee financial management and performance, ensuring profitability, revenue growth, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and execute financial plans, budgets, and forecasts to achieve business objectives.
  • Implement robust risk management policies and compliance frameworks to mitigate financial and operational risks.
  • Ensure compliance with local and international financial regulations, including anti-money laundering (AML) and know-your-customer (KYC) requirements.


Operational Excellence & Technology Innovation:

  • Oversee the development and deployment of innovative mobile money services that improve accessibility, affordability, and usability.
  • Drive operational efficiency and digital transformation to enhance customer experience and business scalability.
  • Lead product development initiatives to introduce new payment solutions, remittances, merchant services, and other fintech innovations.
  • Ensure cybersecurity measures and data protection policies are in place to safeguard customer information and transactions.


Leadership & Team Management:

  • Build and lead a high-performing executive team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide strategic guidance and mentorship to senior management and employees to enhance productivity and engagement.
  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion within the organisation to create a dynamic and inclusive workplace.
  • Align team objectives with overall company goals to drive efficiency and high performance.


Regulatory & Compliance Oversight:

  • Ensure the company operates within legal and regulatory frameworks governing mobile money and financial services.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities and government agencies to advocate for favorable policies and industry best practices.
  • Maintain transparency and corporate governance standards, ensuring compliance with financial and fintech industry regulations.
